SP113D 560W LED Grow Light Review
I read an article titled "The Art of Growing in Small Spaces" on GGdub and decided to test the SP113D 560W LED grow light featured in the article. I purchased our SP113D 560W LED growlight from Dorm Grow LED and put the light to the test. This light is a circular UFO grow light with an 11 inch diameter. It weight less than 4 lbs and is a perfect light to use in small spaces, just like the article says. For its relatively small size, the light is very bright and staring at it for just a couple seconds can leave you seeing spots for several minutes! The specifications on the light state that it can be used for a 30 inch by 30 inch grow space, but what I saw from the pictures in the article, the light was being used in a space just large enough for 1 plant. That is all I wanted to grow so I put this light to the test. I set up a small grow area in my bedroom closet, covered the walls with aluminum foil (I could have used any reflective material like mylar or even white cardboard paper). I tried to follow the pictures in the article to see if the results were real or just doctored photos.
Within 3 days I noticed that my little clone started to grow. It continued to grow, a little bit every day as I had the light running for 18 hours per day. Although the light did not give of much heat at all, my small, enclosed space started to get hot. I fixed this issue with a simple venting system I made with a small fan I bought online for $8 and by making an opening near the top so fresh air could be sucked in from outside. By doing this I was able to get the temperature to a steady 75 degrees which is in range for what you need when growing indoors (70-85 degrees). After 3 weeks I was very impressed by how much the plant had grown with this LED.
If you are trying to grow professionally the this is not the light for you. This is really a stealth grow light for just 1, maybe 2 plants at a time. However, you can always add a bunch of them together to cover a bigger grow area, but if I was going to do that, I would just buy the larger grow light because it comes out cheaper $/wattage that way. If you are just a hobbyist grower and really need to be stealth about how you grow, then this light is the ideal solution. You will not have any heat issues nor will you be wasting any electricity. Leaving this grow light on for 18 hours a day is like leaving a regular 100 Watt incandescent lamp on all day!
